Water Service Restored to Customers in Wilseyville - October 18, 2016
As of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, water service was restored to about 60 customers in the Wilseyville area (See the right of this page for the the initial post about this planned water service disruption). Water service was impacted due to a project that involved the replacement of a pressure tank. The District thanks residential customers and businesses for their patience during the service disruption.
Please note that the District has been unable to flush its main transmission water lines regularly over the past few years, due to State-mandated restrictions brought on by the drought. Over the years, minerals have built up on the inside of the pipes. When CCWD crews perform construction projects and flush lines afterward, the velocity of the water can increase significantly and it scours the inside of the pipes, which can cause the mineral buildup to be dislodged, which causes the water to become discolored. Small air bubbles can also get into the water, which may cause the water to look white or foamy. However, it’s important to remember that even if the water is discolored, it is completely safe to drink and poses no health risk. If customers would like to flush their personal plumbing systems to remove the discolored water, they can turn on an outside faucet at the lowest point on the property and let it run until the water turns clear. To avoid wasting water, CCWD encourages customers to capture the flushed water for later use on trees, shrubs or other landscaping.
CCWD crews will do their best to flush the systems around Wilseyville using hydrants October 18 and 19 in order to remove discolored water, but it may take some time until the water color returns to normal. If the water is not clear, the District recommends that customers avoid washing loads of laundry, especially if the clothes are white and bleach is being used.
