Water Outage Delayed by One Day at Vista Del Lago Drive and Highway 26

October 10, 2016

NOTE: CCWD has changed the date of the water outage that will impact businesses in the Vista Del Lago Drive area to Wednesday Oct. 12 from 8 a.m. to noon. The outage was initially scheduled for Tuesday Oct. 11. This change was necessary to accommodate Caltrans.

Due to Caltrans making improvements to the Highway 26 and Vista Del Lago Drive intersection, the Calaveras County Water District had to lower water transmission lines in the area. Work near the intersection has been taking place for the past couple of months, and the District appreciates residents’ patience during the construction phase of this project, which is coming to an end. However, there will be several significant impacts between Thursday October 6 and Tuesday October 11 of which residents should be aware (Note: these dates and times are subject to change in case of an emergency).

Thursday October 6

Both lanes of Vista Del Lago Drive will be closed at the Highway 26 intersection to allow construction crews to perform road paving. Motorists should take a detour along Hartvickson Road to Silver Rapids Road to get around the constructions. Detour signs will be posted prominently in the area.

Friday October 7

There will be traffic delays with cones and flagging on Highway 26 in both directions. Traffic speed will be reduced and there could be minor delays of up to 5 minutes.

Tuesday October 11

Starting at 8 a.m. the a planned water outage will disrupt serve to the Mobile Gas Station and Valley Springs Family Counseling. Water service is expected to be restored by noon.

Wednesday October 12

A planned water outage will take place from 8 a.m. to noon. It will cause water service disruptions at the following businesses:

  • La Contenta Golf Course Pro Shop
  • Vista Grille
  • La Contenta Dental
  • Pizza Factory
  • Mark Twain Medical Center Family Medical Center
  • Country Club Drug
  • California Foster Families
  • This outage will also impact two residences on Highway 26.

Thursday October 13

The eastbound lane of Vista Del Lago Drive will be closed to traffic. Motorists heading eastbound should take a detour on Silver Rapids Road and Hartvickson Lane. Detour signs will be posted prominently in the area.

Impacts to water

Customers in this area may experience water quality issues from Monday through Wednesday.

NOTE: Due to the 5-year drought, CCWD has been unable to flush its water transmission lines. This means that when construction projects take place, it can cause mineral buildup on the insides of pipes to become dislodged and cause discolored water. However, it’s important to remember that even if the water is discolored, it is completely safe to drink. If customers would like to flush their systems of discolored water, they can turn on an outside faucet at the lowest point on the property and let it run until the water turns clear. To avoid wasting water, CCWD encourages customers to capture the flushed water for later use on trees, shrubs or other landscaping. CCWD crews will do their best to flush the systems, but it may take some time until the water color returns to normal. Until the water runs clear, the District recommends that customers not wash loads of laundry, especially if the clothes are white and bleach is being used.
