CCWD Awards Construction Contract for Reach 1 Pipeline Replacement Project - April 9, 2019

The Calaveras County Water District Board of Directors has awarded a $6.7 million contract to Mozingo Construction for the Reach 1 Pipeline Replacement Project between Forest Meadows and Avery.

The existing 8-inch pipeline was installed in 1965 and is being replaced due to its age, poor condition and high frequency of failures and repairs. The construction project will install 4.4 miles of new 12-inch pipeline and a quarter mile of new 8-inch pipeline.

“This new pipeline will provide additional fire flows and enhanced infrastructure reliability to residents who live along Highway 4,” said Bertha Underhill, CCWD Division 3 director. “Replacing and renovating infrastructure throughout the County is one of our top priorities, and we want customers to know we are putting their rate dollars to work.”

The District plans to start construction in May 2019 and complete the project by summer of 2020. The majority of the pipeline is along Highway 4 off the edge of the pavement, and there will be intermittent traffic impacts throughout the project. CCWD has taken great care to sequence construction in a manner that keeps the existing pipeline operational while installing the new pipeline to minimize service interruptions.

In late April or early May, the District plans to hold a town hall meeting to provide the community with a project overview and to discuss potential impacts. The time, date and location of this meeting will be announced in the coming weeks. Project information will be posted at www.ccwd.org.
