CCWD Adopts Redistricting Map - March 16, 2022

Calaveras County Water District Adopts 2022 Redistricting Map

Every ten years following the U.S. Census, it is required by California for Special Districts to redraw boundaries for the board of directors so that each division is similarly equal in population. This process, called redistricting, is important in ensuring each elected board member represents about the same number of constituents. Redistricting determines what neighborhoods and communities are grouped into divisions to elect their respective board members. Community engagement and input is important in creating a redistricting plan that provides fair and effective representation for everyone.

After several public meetings, the CCWD board adopted new district boundaries for its directors at a public hearing held on March 9, 2022. CCWD is an independent special district with county-wide jurisdiction that is governed by a five-member board of directors.  Each director represents a portion of the County and is elected by the voters in that district.  CCWD strives to keep communities intact when drawing the boundaries and also takes CCWD service areas and watershed boundaries into account, to the extent possible.
